review

I bought this TV thinking it was a steal, never had an LG TV before, but I haven't heard anything but good things. It was also a risk because there were absolutely no reviews online when I bought it. But I thought, hey, technology has improved a lot in the past few years, compared to my 7 year old Toshiba LCD TV (which still works beautifully).

Pros:

Thin, light, easy to set up, navigation through menu is simple. Bright and colorful (can't speak much about saturation and color accuracy, but it seems alright to me). Took some time to get it right though.

Cons:

Contrast ratio - non existent. Definitely something companies are not investing in anymore, especially on lower models. The blacks are horrible, I could almost see the LED source through the pixels, especially when viewed at an angle. In one spot in particular it is very apparent. It's hard to appreciate, but look at attached pictures which should be projecting a pure black image (and one protecting an image supposedly in 1080p). Maybe the light leak is from early production defects, well at least I hope so.

Motion blur - especially from my normal cable connection, I could see staggered changes in picture, not very smooth. It's worse with cartoons. Really ruins the experience.

No Internet connection - although I knew about it going in. Compared to the Sony being sold at the same price, it was definitely a downside.

I was simply disappointed with this TV. I understand companies need to make tiers of quality to sell products at different price ranges. This is very likely to be the lowest teir, and it looks like to save money, they sacrifice refresh rate and contrast ratio. It is fairly inexpensive for its size, and does have a decent array of color. But if you want something to be really satisfying, get something else, or pay more.

I don't think any product deserves a 1 star, this is a working TV that may be just enough to satisfy your needs. But in overall satisfaction and quality (compared to where technology should be nowadays) this TV doesn't deserve more than 2 stars.
