Samsung UN40H5003 40-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED TV
CUSTOMER REVIEW
This tv seemed like a great deal- a company with an excellent reputation and a new model with a significant markdown from a retail of $430 down to $300. I assumed the markdown was part of the early holiday sales, but they might just be trying to get them out the door before the bad reviews come in. I played with the display settings for hours, but the picture just isn't good enough. The pixels are visible. There's a white pixelation on the edges of most shapes, especially people, that can only be reduced by turning the sharpness way down, leaving the picture nowhere close to 1080p. Live tv looks terrible. People in general look terrible. I watch a lot of sports and commentary, and there's enough ghosting to be completely distracting. When commentators speak, it legitimately looks like zombie teeth, as if they had giant, half-transparent teeth. There's a discernible lag time when people move, and you can actually see the tv catch up and become clear a half second after people stop moving. The only saving grace is that studio-quality productions look decent, but still nothing to brag about.
I know the common gripe about 60hz is that live tv, especially sports, don't always look great, but this tv takes it to an extreme. I traded it after one day for a Sony 40" model kdl40r380b which is the same price, and the picture quality is better right out of the box and live tv even looks pretty good. I don't know if this tv is still in the consumer-testing phase, because the model is only a couple months old, but it's just not good enough right now.
